PENN Entertainment has announced that the new Hollywood Casino Joliet in Illinois will open on August 11, 2025 — six months ahead of schedule. This isn’t a simple renovation of an existing venue, but the full construction of a modern gaming complex poised to become a landmark for the state’s entertainment industry.
From Riverboats to Modern Casinos
Illinois has long been known for its riverboat casinos — moored vessels offering games of chance, part of a long-standing American tradition. But with regulatory shifts and industry growth, the state is officially transitioning to land-based casinos. Hollywood Casino Joliet will be one of the first major projects in this new phase.
The new complex will be located in the Rock Run Collection area — a bustling residential and commercial zone at the intersection of interstates I-80 and I-55. With roughly 230,000 vehicles passing daily, visibility and foot traffic are all but guaranteed.

Hollywood Casino Joliet will feature an expansive gaming floor with 1,000 slot machines covering a wide range of themes and bet levels — from classic titles to cinematic video slots. Table game enthusiasts will find 43 tables offering roulette, blackjack, poker variants, and a dedicated baccarat room — a game known for its high stakes and intensity.
The ESPN BET sportsbook will take center stage for sports fans — a modern venue where visitors can place bets, watch live games, enjoy a bite, and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of live sports.
But this is more than just a casino. A 10,000-square-foot event and exhibition center will host concerts, business gatherings, and public events, making Hollywood Casino Joliet a true multi-purpose destination. For added convenience, the site will offer parking for 1,330 vehicles.
A Win for the Community
The project is expected to have a notable economic impact. With the casino's opening, local employment is projected to grow from 400 to 600 jobs, creating new career opportunities, boosting family incomes, and supporting small businesses in the area.
The total investment in the project stands at $185 million, of which $130 million was provided by Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc. in Q3 2024. While completion was initially slated for a later date, PENN Entertainment accelerated the timeline to welcome guests by summer 2025.
